We had pancakes to celebrate Shrove Tuesday. We learned that pancakes were made on the day before Lent began to use up rich food like eggs and milk because long ago people fasted for the forty days of Lent. We had a choice of toppings and the pancakes were so delicious that some of us had them eaten before teacher could take a photo of us!

We've been learning some hurling and camogie skills with our new coach Michael. We learned the names of the four parts of the hurley, the handle, boss, toe and heel!
On Monday First Class went on an adventure to the Postbox to post our Valentines cards in time for Valentine's Day. We were very excited. We wore our hi-vis jackets and we had to be very careful crossing the main road. We were delighted that all the cards fitted in the postbox because it was very small. We hope all the Mammies and Daddies got a lovely surprise in the post yesterday!
When it's too wet outside for Operation Transformation we do our workout inside with the 10 @ 10 video!
We had a lovely morning in school today with our Grannies and Grandads for Grandparents' Day. First we recited our poem 'When I Was a Baby'. Then we asked our Grandparents lots of questions about life when they were younger and what school was like then. Imagine they had to walk to school and had no televisions! Our Grandparents showed us some old items they brought in. We saw two old irons, a wooden block game, a pocket watch and some hair clips, a paraffin lamp and a Sacred Heart oil lamp, an old potato masher, a toy rocking chair made out of clothes pegs, some old coins, an old horse shoe, an old razor and shaving brush, a feather pen and ink bottles, some pipes and tobacco, a tongs made by the Blacksmith in Drumsna, a bellows for the fire and some old-style handwriting. Then we read 'A Poem for Grandparents' and gave them to our Grandparents as a present to thank them for coming to visit us. When the Grandparents had finished their tea they had a look around our classroom and they said it was very different to when they were in school! We all really enjoyed the day and we learned lots about olden times. Some people said it was the best day in school ever!!
