Congratulations to these children in Fourth and Fifth Classes who had full attendance for the academic year 2016-2017. Well done!
This term we did biodiversity art with Karen Webster. We did loads of interesting activities including making animals out of clay like ladybirds, beetles, butterflies, slugs, snails and centipedes. We did activities outside, we made a web to see how all the plants and animals were related and relied on each other. We looked for bugs on trees. We drew trees, plants, bugs and so much more. We also did water colour drawings where we drew our insect and painted in with water colour paints. We also went outside, looked for insects and then we collected them in a jar and studied them. Thank you Karen, we had a great time.
By Aobhlinn Maxwell and Óisín Molloy!!! Blanket the chick came to the school. She was 5 weeks old then! She went around all the classes, then spent an hour with fourth and a bit with fifth. Everyone in our class held her. In second class Patrick showed her but in the other classes I showed her. She came at lunch time and stayed till three. I was very happy Blanket visited my school! This is my best memory of school this year!
By Saoirse Hayden. I brought in my four kittens at half twelve and stayed until two o’clock. They were 3 weeks old, very small, cute and ginger. We visited every class, most people loved them but some of the juniors were a little scared as they thought they were tigers. I was very happy to show off the new additions to our family! By James Morgan We have been learning all about Europe. We did projects on different countries and discovered many exciting facts!
Miss Judge had this great idea to do European projects. We each had a different country,e.g.France,Germany,Spain and Italy. We had a certain time to finish our projects and did them in scrap books. We presented our projects to the class. My name is Senan and I did my project on Croaita. My name is Eamonn I did my project on Swizerland. As well as it being stupendously fun, it was a great benefit because we also learned lots about different countries. It was great fun doing European projects! P.S If you’re doing projects DO NOT leave it till the last minute its quite silly and I definitely did not do that…..eh eh em… By Senan, Eamonn and Aoife. THE END Thank you for reading. Fourth and Fifth Class did Buddy Reading with children from First Class on Mondays and Wednesdays for a few weeks. We listened to our buddies reading and we had to help them when they got stuck on a new word. Being a buddy helped us with our own reading too. We really enjoyed it!
As part of our music, we composed songs to make "Night Music" We looked at a picture of a night scene for inspiration. It reminded me of Halloween night.
In groups we put together or own little compositions using percussion instruments such as triangles, maracas, tambourines, shakers and wood blocks. We also used paper to make wind and thunder sounds and some children whistled to make wind sounds and meowed to sound like the cats fighting. I liked making wind sounds using paper. I think this music lesson was very enjoyable because we got to work in groups and perform in front of the whole class. by Dara For Halloween, we did a Science experiment. The experiment showed an acid and base reaction. We used vinegar (the acid) and baking soda (the base) for our experiment. When we added the baking soda to the vinegar, the mixture started to fizz up to the rim of the jar and slowly it started to pour out of the jar and all over the tray.
The mixture turned into slime and we started to touch and play with the slime. The slime felt very slippery and cold but nice in your hands! The smell was a bit bad because of the vinegar. We loved doing this experiment because it was fun to see the ingredients react like that and then turn into slime. It was very very messy and some people's hands turned green like goblins!! by Aileen and Saoirse We learned the Irish poem, An Chailleach Ghránna by Gabriel Rosenstock. It was really good fun putting on funny voices for the witch and the scared child.
For art we made collage witches. We used different coloured paper to create our witches. We really enjoyed learning the poem and making our witches and I think they looked scary and fabulous up on the wall. We wrote essays about a Haunted Mansion in English. We brainstormed lots of scary words on the board to use in our essays. We made silhouettes of the haunted mansions in art. We painted the background using red and yellow paint and then used black paper to make the haunted mansions. It was really good fun doing this art. By Emily & Victoria |
