Back to School Plan for Children:
Best Wishes to Sixth Class:
Dear Sixth class pupils,
As a class you will go down in history as the first Sixth class to have completed a third of the year without your classroom environment, your friends, your teachers and your school. Missing out on your last term in Sixth class was such a pity for you all and for us. We had so many plans, but at least everyone is safe and well.
We wanted to make your graduation special so on Friday last we had a graduation with you like no other, a tour of Annaduff, Dromod, Drumsna, Carrick, Drumshanbo and Leitrim village. We were absolutely delighted to visit you in your homes and see you all once again. You have all grown up so much in the past few months and look so well.
Compared to any other Sixth class you have developed life and resilient skills like no other. Everyone in the school is very proud of you all and would like to acknowledge the huge contribution you made to the school during your time with us.
We wish you well as you make the move to Secondary school. You are all well ready and able for the transition. It is a very exciting time for you all. Embrace it all with enthusiasm. Remember you have the potential to do whatever you want, follow your dreams and never give up.
Best of luck to you all,
Sandra Gunning, (Class Teacher) Vincent Tighe (Principal)
Latest Update May 29, 2020:
Dear Parents and Children,
I hope you and your families are all well and that you are enjoying the lovely weather. I just wanted to update you on a few things and clarify our plans for the coming weeks. As you are aware the Department of Education will issue an update in the near future, on returning to schools in September. Until then, we cannot make any definite arrangements.
Following feedback from a few parents, the teachers are going to send out the homework on Sundays instead of Mondays. This is to facilitate homes where there are two working parents. There won’t be any homework scheduled for this Monday as it’s a Bank Holiday.
Some parents and children have been fantastic in their engagement with their teachers during the past couple of months. This week each teacher will ask for a sample of work from each child. These samples could be a poem, a page of a workbook, a photograph or their favourite piece of work.
School reports and book lists will be sent out in June as usual. The reports will be based on their school work from September to March. In line with the department of Education guidelines, standardised tests will not take place this year.
Enjoy the bank Holiday weekend and keep safe.
Best Regards,
Vincent Tighe (Principal)
HELPLINE:
We know that a lot of parents are struggling during this time and may need somewhere to reach out for help. The number for this helpline is: 1800 910 123 and it is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm.

The school is delighted that our application for the renewal of our Green Flag has been successful. Thanks to the school coordinator Ms. Woods and all the hard-working members of our Green-Schools committee, and everyone in the school.
Unfortunately, due the current situation, the Green-Schools Awards Ceremonies will not take place this year. As soon as the schools re-open we will receive our Green Flag.

Update:
I hope you and your families are all well and that you enjoyed the Easter break. I just wanted to update you on a few things and clarify our plans for the coming weeks.
First Holy Communion was due to take place in Annaduff on May 9th. I have been in touch with Fr. John and it has been decided in the interest of everyone’s safety and well-being to postpone it for the moment.
Tomorrow morning all teachers intend to have suggested work and activities emailed to you. You may contact your class teacher directly at that email address. In the interest of keeping some kind of routine for the children, we will send work out on Monday mornings for the week ahead. A little later in the week, answers to the previous week’s work will be sent out, where appropriate. This will continue for the duration of the school closure.
The teachers are attempting to proceed with the curriculum as best they can. Spellings will be part of the work. If possible, it would be great if someone was available to give the children their usual Friday spelling test and record the results in their books. The teachers have been working over the past while, both individually and collectively at zoom meetings to try and set appropriate work for the children. This is a new and challenging situation for all of us. We are aware that not all children have access to laptops and printers and we are trying to ensure that the work is as manageable as possible. We also realise that in many cases parents may be at work. Your child may need help and support with some of this work, but please do not let it become a stressful experience. If any of the suggested activities or work seem too difficult, become a chore or a source of anxiety or conflict in your home, do not feel under pressure to complete it. Remember children need to feel comforted and loved most of all at this time. Spending time with them, talking to them, reassuring them, playing with them, going for walks and doing things together is the best way you can do this. When this is all over these are the things they will remember.
Finally, before the Easter break we collected emails from all parents in order to send out work. If any of you do not receive an email tomorrow please email the school at [email protected] from the email address that you want to use and we will rectify the situation.
Take care of yourselves,
Vincent Tighe (Principal)

Easter Update:
Dear parents and children,
I hope you are all keeping well. I just wanted to update you as to what is happening school-wise. At this stage it looks likely that we won’t be back for some time yet.
We all feel that everyone should try and use the next two weeks of what should be the Easter holidays, to take a break from school work. Our children not only hear everything that is going on around them, but they feel our tension and anxiety. Like the rest of us, they have never experienced anything like this before. They miss the routine of school and the social interaction with their friends and teachers. Everyone’s physical and mental well-being is the most important thing to consider during this crisis. Most of all right now, children need to feel comforted and loved. Talking to them, playing with them, going for walks and doing things together is the best way you can do this.
The official school term is due to resume on the 20th of April and the teachers have been working on a plan for the coming weeks. We intend to send out suggested work and activities to the email addresses you provided. This work will be sent out by your child’s class teacher. You will be able to contact the teacher directly at that email address. In the interest of keeping some kind of routine, we will send it out on Monday mornings for the week ahead. This will continue for the duration of the school closure. Your child may need help and support with some of this work, but please do not let it become a stressful experience. If any of the suggested work or activities becomes a chore or a source of anxiety or conflict in your home, do not feel under pressure to complete it. Every family in the country is in the same situation. When this is all over everyone’s mental health will be more important than their academic skills.
Finally, if there are any outstanding enrolment forms for the coming school year please send them in to the school or you can e-mail them to [email protected].
On behalf of everyone in the school I would like to wish you all an enjoyable and safe holiday.

First Holy Communion:
There have been a few enquiries about First Holy Communion which is scheduled to take place on May 9th. I contacted Fr. John and he thinks it's a bit early to tell at this stage. He will follow the lead of the H.S.E. and the diocese. We will keep you updated. Fr John asked me to send his best wishes to all parents, children and teachers of the school and that you are all in his thoughts and prayers.

Update - March 25th:
Dear Parents,
I have uploaded some work for the children for the next while. Again, if you go to the ‘Activities for Home’ tab you will find it there. Thanks very much to all of you who sent in email addresses to the school yesterday. Those of you who haven’t got around to it yet please send them on to [email protected]. It is a strange and worrying time for everybody including children. Keeping some structure and routine in their lives is important and reassuring for them.
Amazon cancelled subscriptions of books and audio stories for children and students of all ages as long as schools are closed – here’s the link https://stories.audible.com/start-listen. The World of David Walliams is releasing an audio story from The World’s Worst Children every day for the next 30 days. These may be of interest to some of you.
Take care of yourselves for now,
Best Regards,
Vincent Tighe (Principal)

Covid 19 - Activities and ideas for children
Dear Parents,
I hope you are all keeping well and your families are all safe. This is a very challenging and stressful time for everybody, including children. Many of them are worried about some of the things they have seen on TV, social media or overheard from people.
In order to avoid stress for both parents and children regarding school work we have put together some activities and ideas that you may find helpful. If you are using a PC or laptop you can access these by scrolling down the left hand side of our home page and hit the ‘Activities for home’ tab. If you are using a phone or tablet the tab is on top right hand side, just hit 'more' and then the 'Activities for home' tab. If you have any difficulty opening a link copy and paste it into the google search engine.
We all need to look after our physical and mental health at this time. Spending time talking to your children and doing activities with them would be very beneficial. Above everything else, it is important that the children have some structure to their day and that they enjoy what they are doing as they will be missing the structure and routine of school as well as the friendship and support of their peers.
In the meantime look after yourselves and look out for each other.
Best Regards,
Vincent Tighe (Principal)
