Cian brought in a Didgeridoo from Australia. Everyone in the class had a go at playing the Australian musical instrument. It wasn't as easy as we thought it would be!
We learned all about Australia in First Class. We learned that the capital city of Australia is Canberra but the largest city is Sydney. The Sydney Opera House is a very famous building. We learned about Uluru and The Royal Flying Doctor Service. When it is summer here it is winter in Australia. Some of the animals that live in Australia are Kangaroos, Koalas, Kookaburras, Wombats and Dingoes. Australia has a shell beach and Bondi Beach is very famous too. The Great Barrier Reef has lots of coral and Nemo lives there! Teacher showed us lots of photographs from Australia and we learned the Australian songs Waltzing Matilda and Home Among the Gumtrees. We learned about Aboriginal Art and we designed and painted our own boomerangs. Lots of children in First Class hope to visit Australia one day! We've been learning all about Australia in First Class. Some children brought in items from Australia to show us. They included Didgeridoos. a 'mothers and their babies' collection of teddies, a Boomerang, a Koala teddy bear and bags from Australia.
First Class did Buddy Reading with children from Fourth and Fifth Classes. We read with our buddies on Mondays and Wednesdays for a few weeks. We really enjoyed it and gained lots of confidence in reading.
